SOLIDMAR — Solidarity Shores

SOLIDMAR (Solidarity Shores) is an EU-funded European Solidarity Corps project that brings together young volunteers, coastal communities, fishers, shellfish gatherers and local organisations to tackle the environmental and social challenges affecting marine ecosystems.

Through volunteering, community participation, environmental education and collaboration with local actors, the project promotes marine conservation, climate resilience, sustainable fishing and circular-economy solutions for marine waste — while preserving the traditional knowledge of fishing communities. IAFA takes part as a partner organisation, connecting Portuguese volunteers to the project.

The project's full official title is "The Solidarity Shores – Empowering Communities for Sustainable Fish and Seafood Resources" (ESC Volunteering Teams in High Priority Areas). Its first volunteering team runs from 4 May to 8 June 2026 in Cambados (Cortiñas 8, Pontevedra, Galicia) and brings together around 30 young volunteers from Spain, Portugal and Türkiye, who carry out beach clean-ups, shellfish-bed restoration, seafood-waste composting, recycling initiatives and non-formal education workshops on marine and coastal protection, working alongside local fishers and shellfish gatherers.
